Description
The Cannery – 1989. Acrylic on canvas. Original painting size: 30″ x 20″ (76.2 x 50.8 cm)
I spotted this scene in 1989 while exploring the south arm of the Fraser River, near Steveston, BC, which is about 40 minutes south of Vancouver. There used to be more than 15 canneries that lined this stretch of river. I believe this set of buildings was part of one of the last of those, although it’s hard to confirm this as the area has changed so much. The field in the scene is likely a residential subdivision now.
